Homeschooling with a meek and quiet spirit

It’s hard to believe that another summer has passed and before long the colors of fall will begin to show us that the coming season is upon us again. With that being said, wouldn’t it be nice to start the new school year with a ‘meek and quiet spirit’?

This book is written by Teri Maxwell, a homeschooling mother of eight. She has been raising her children since 1985. In her book, she asks, “Will finding the perfect spelling curriculum or deciding what homework your child needs to do complete your journey to a meek and quiet spirit? Or will the answer is on a different path?”

So what makes you not demonstrate a meek and quiet spirit? We all have moments when we wish we had handled something better, in a kinder way, with more calm, with more sympathy. But what made you not? Can you identify exactly what it was? Possibly scared? To worry? Disorganization? Depression? “Perhaps these meek and quiet spirited thieves should be our wake-up call to the fact that homeschooling and chores require hard work. They are demanding and time consuming. We are called to toil and toil day after day after There are no “free rides”. If we sit back for a day, or two, or three and ignore everything, it will still be waiting for us and more!” So what can we do about it? What can we do to bring the peace to our home that we all desire?

First, what exactly does Webster’s Dictionary define as “meek”: “mild, mild, gentle temperament, not easily irritated or provoked.” “Calm,” according to Webster, means “peaceful, not turbulent, not offending, mild, meek, and content.” “So when everything comes crashing down around us, we would like to be peaceful through it, just as Jesus was in the midst of the storm. When our children are not making academic or character progress that we hoped for, we want to be content, hoping that they are understood. We would like to “live” for our children the reality of resting in the Lord.”

In Teri’s book, she offers thoughts, suggestions, scriptures, and even application projects to help you learn how to gain a ‘meek and quiet spirit.’ It is a book worth reading and a great opportunity to start the new school year. I pray that you enjoy it and find an opportunity to apply your words of wisdom as I found them.

I pray you have a great school year!!

Kelly
