Well, two years have passed since I wrote the first article about the problems of buying a new house within a typical Spanish urbanization, in this case it is called La Cinuelica, south of Torrevieja.
There is a good reason for this, as priorities have now changed, it is no longer about electing presidents for our resort or walking through mud to get to our vacation home, it has changed and is becoming like (although not all) we thought it would be when we bought it for the first time, although 2 years late.
To begin with, the crime rate in La Cinuleica has dropped tremendously since the building contractors left the area, as all the houses in the La Cinuelica area are almost finished. I’m not saying it was the builders who were stealing, but there is no doubt that building sites attract crime, to the point that many new owners have packed up and returned to the UK. However for us the gates around the area and the absence of strangers has made our La Cinuelica area much safer and more relaxed.
Also, many of the commercial areas are finished or in progress, the new Punta Marina complex just down the street is excellent and convenient. A rooftop area to eat, there is also an all you can eat Chinese restaurant and even a fish and chip restaurant, to keep us Brits happy. There is a new complex that will show movies in English, as well as restaurants and takeaways, which will soon be completed as well.
It’s amazing how adding a little paint to the asphalt can make the area look so much better too. What I mean by this is the road signs throughout the La Cinuelica area, with new asphalt. Now it looks like a housing estate instead of houses on a muddy lot. It has taken 2 years after ours was built for this as they wait until all the roads can be done before doing this. A new building is coming up nearby, where we’re told there’s an indoor pool, perfect for those winter swims. The pool is never as warm as the weather and many of us go there in the winter to sunbathe but the pool is too cold.
Our residents seem to be getting used to the rules around the complex too, no pool parties and home modifications are going through residents. Although he has never asked for anything serious.
Our house is now not only a second home, but also a vacation rental. We can do this without worrying about someone objecting to the muddy field outside. So now I make my website to hire our vacation rental, in fact I spent my last vacation there, putting together this website.
So, 2 years later, am I happy with our purchase of La Cinuelica? The answer is yes; probably more than I thought it would be 2 years later.
