Find out the wardrobe design for your bedroom

Like everything in life, there are those who were born to plan bedrooms and those who prefer to do anything else. You know which one you are: when you move to a new place, or when you need an extra room for new kids or family visits, or you get excited and start spending quality time with design magazines or you get grumpy and depressed and try everything the tricks in the book to avoid the problem.

Never fear! It’s not as difficult as you think, and there’s one aspect of design that’s as easy as it is exciting: choosing the right wardrobe design for your particular bedroom. There are three main things to consider when choosing a wardrobe: your personal taste, the physical space it fits into, and what it will be used for.

know your style

There are no wrong answers to the question of how you want your wardrobe to look. Traditional, modern, wood stained or pink – it’s up to you and the rest of the room. You can find a wardrobe in almost any style you want, or have one made to order. The key is knowing what you want. Don’t just choose something from a catalog based on price – take your time and think about how the rest of the furniture will look, what colors will be on the walls and what will please your eye.

Know your space

Wardrobe design begins with the space in which the wardrobe will be. The closets are not one size fits all, and if your closet is too big for the space, you’ll know it every time you walk into the room (possibly because you’ll have to climb over something to get in there). Measure the room carefully and map out where everything will be so you know where the cabinet will sit, and therefore the exact dimensions you’ll need to work with. This will also inform your choice of sliding or swinging doors – do you have room for doors that swing out without hitting the bed?

Know your needs

The final aspect of costume design is what the costume will be used for: the daily dressing routine of an active child? Storage of linens and spare bedding? Or will it remain empty until people visit? Knowing what you are going to put in the wardrobe will guide you in your wardrobe design decisions and help you determine if something from stock will work for you or if you need to have something custom made.

Don’t discount the power of the wardrobe! It has a tremendous effect on the overall success of your room design. A wardrobe that doesn’t match the rest of the room will stick out like a sore thumb and look awful. And a malfunctioning wardrobe is a waste of valuable space, not to mention priceless storage. When tackling a wardrobe issue, take your time and follow these three steps carefully to ensure you make the right decisions.
