Motorola Defy: a unique Android phone

Motorola Defy is a smartphone with Google’s Android operating system. Supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 2G quad-band and HSDPA 900/2100 3G dual-band networks. The phone measures 107 X 59 X 13.4 mm and weighs only 118 grams. It is very light and compact and easily fits in your pocket or bag.

Motorola Defy has an impressive 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touch screen that has a resolution of 480 X 854 pixels and can display up to 16 million colors. The screen is made of Gorilla Glass, which is scratch resistant, so you don’t have to worry about buying a separate screen protector for your phone. The screen is bright and clear, giving the user a truly amazing experience. MOTOBLUR’s user interface supports live widgets and allows the user to customize the appearance of the phone according to their preferences. An accelerometer sensor and a proximity sensor are also provided for UI auto-rotation and screen auto-off respectively. Other features include touch sensitive controls, multi-touch input, etc.

The phone has an internal storage of 2 GB. A memory card slot is also provided that supports microSD cards up to 32 GB. Users can store unlimited entries and fields in the phone’s phonebook and call logs. Data connectivity options include Class 12 GPRS, Class EDGE, high-speed HSDPA, and HSUPA. For data transfer between other devices, features such as Wi-Fi with DLNA, Bluetooth version 2.1 with A2DP, and microUSB version 2.0 are provided. Motorola Defy is powered by a 800 MHz TI OMAP3610 processor and runs on Google’s very popular Android operating system version 2.1. It has a high resolution 5 megapixel camera which can take images up to a resolution of 2592Ñ…1944 pixels. Video recording is also supported. An LED flash is useful for taking pictures at night or in low light conditions. Other camera features include autofocus, geotagging, image stabilization, display modes, etc. Users can edit their photos and videos right on the phone using the built-in photo and video editing app.

The phone offers a wide range of applications. Multimedia features include a music player that can play MP3/WAV/WMA/AAC+ files and a video player that can play MP4/WMV/H.263/H.264 files. Stereo FM radio with RDS is also supported. Google services like Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk are preloaded. Like most smartphones these days, the Defy also integrates with popular social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.
