The benefits of using teak wood

As our environment and our economy continue to change, we are constantly looking for better ways to improve the use of different tools to build and expand the growth of our country, while remaining kind to our environment.

One of the many tools we use to do this is wood. It has a wide range of uses; from furniture to buildings, bridges and paper.

The main source of wood used in the world is forests and, in turn, it has caused environmental damage that is so difficult to repair in this wood economy that we have created. Over time, the demand for wood has taken much of our forests and left us scrambling to find ways to save what is left. Some eco-activists oppose logging, due to clearcutting. They explain that cutting down trees changes the soil and climate of ecosystems, making it impossible for new trees and plants to grow and wildlife to thrive.

However, people on the forest management side say that many forests are overgrown, disease infested and loaded with fuel due to dead wood and undergrowth. This makes a wildfire more likely to occur, and attempting to regrow trees nearly impossible, due to potentially damaged soil. So, in this sense, it can sometimes be argued that it is acceptable to cut down a part of the wood, but not to completely destroy a forest.

So what is left to do to help in this ongoing crisis? Some lumber manufacturers have had the idea of selecting and reserving an appropriate amount of land for planting trees and using that lumber for lumber, for distribution. This not only helps save our forests from corporations destroying acres of trees, but also controls and tracks the number of trees that are felled, in a designated area.

Teak (also known as tectona grandis) is a yellowish-brown wood with rich grain and texture, which has a very pleasing solid finish. Teak wood has a natural ability to resist moisture, insects, cracking and warping. It is an ideal choice for outdoor applications and is desired by designers and interior designers. Teak, which is found mainly in South and Southeast Asia, is also planted and cultivated in these designated areas that are being used.

The process for planting these trees is quite extensive. Teak is grown mainly from seed. There is a pretreatment that consists of alternately moistening and drying the seeds. The seeds are soaked in water for 12 hours and then dried in the sun for 12 hours. This is repeated for 10 to 14 days and then the seeds are sown in beds of coarse peat covered with sand. The seeds then germinate after 15 to 30 days. This process is done repeatedly to ensure that the teak wood reaches its full potential.

Proteak manufactures a range of teak wood items. They follow the same method of renewable forest exploitation. The teak wood is extracted from its renewable plantations in Mexico and Latin America.
